As part of the Biomedicine Transition program we will be offering all new students the opportunity to sign up to a facilitated study group. The groups meet once a week with their facilitator during semester 1.
The study groups will introduce you to the many services the university has to offer as well as provide you with support and guidance in your studies. Facilitated by trained later year undergraduate or postgraduate students, the study groups offer a means for you to interact with other students and gain information on the resources and services that are available to you. The study groups will also provide a forum for you to discuss any issues you may be experiencing.
Information on the study groups as well as sign up lists are available on the Learning Management System (LMS).

"I volunteered to develop some leadership and small group facilitation skills. I hope the program helps new students, especially those experiencing difficulties a be a part of the Biomedicine Transition program because I remember some of the confusion and uncertainties that came hand in hand with first year of university, especially coming from interstate. Furthermore, my course didn't have a transition program. This seemed like a great opportunity for me to not only help other students and give back to the university in my last semester on campus, but also a chance adjust, to find support in all aspects of university life, not just academic."

"I choose to facilitate the Biomedicine Transition program this year out of curiosity, as no equivalent progam was offered to my cohort in my first year. I see the program as being able to develop social networks and group study skills between students, consolidating the adaptation to university life in a relaxed, informal setting. I would stress that this program aims not only to help students experiencing difficulties, but to welcome all students and actively enhance their all-round university experience, regardless of their background or capabilities. I look forward to what should be a great semester of sharing knowledge, ideas and laughs".

"High school and University are two very different ball games. No one tells you what to expect when you graduate from high school. Some people find it very easy to adapt, but most feel like they are lost. When I first started university 5 yrs ago I was fortunate to meet many students in the years above me who were willing to give me useful advice both academically and socially. Now that I am in my final year, I feel a sense of duty to help first years, show them the ropes as such. But the Biomedicine Transition program isnt just supposed to be a 'help desk'. It's also a great way to meet new people. From personal experience, I know that the best way to struggle through Uni, is to do it with a group of friends :) So come along to the study groups. We'll try and help you in every way we can, from answering questions about university and the biomedicine course to finding cafes and restaurants to relax in. At the very least, you can try and get to know 25 people from your course a little bit better. And hopefully we'll help you enjoy your first year at Melb Uni".

"The first year of university is exciting, with the myriad of opportunities
to participate in. The transitions program helps you adjust to this new
life, not only by offering you a chance to go over your course materials,
but also to meet new friends and understand what (not) to do. A small way
of achieving that elusive work-life balance!"
